A brief history of Drongan

by Ruth Jefferson
Drongan has a long and proud history, Here are just some of the major dates in the history of the town.

1390s - Lands around Drongan granted to Craufurds

1844 - Schaw Kirk opened

1930 - Original rows of houses at Taiglum demolished

1946 - Development of Drongan as a new town begins

2002 - Drongan Centre opened

Now it's your turn!

That's the briefest of brief summaries, and hardly covers the most important dates. But this is where you come in. There's lots of interest in local history and lots of local knowledge out there - so why not share it here? To add to the time-line, all you have to do is click on the edit button.

Or perhaps you'd like to start your own article about another aspect of Drongan history? You can do that, too. There must also be a wealth of wonderful photographs of old Drongan - maybe even some video of more recent events - and those are more than welcome here.

Post it all here, and let's see if we can really chronicle the history of Drongan in a way we can all share!

Margaret Clarke says

April, 1959 Drongan Junior Secondary School opened

January, 1970  Drongan Junior Secondary School became Drongan Primary School.

BOBBY WILSON says

It will be Drongan Bowling Club's 50th Anniversary this week - so why not go down and celebrate it with all the members?

Everyone is welcome!

Celebrations and congratulations for the bowling club! Post your messages - and any photos and memories of the bowling club over the years here on s1drongan.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
