Drongan pair nominated at West Sound Community awards
5 OctoberJohn Nimmo and Bill Gibson of the Drongan Tenants and Residents Association will be amongst the nominees in the West Sound Cream of Ayrshire awards, which will be presented at a glittering ceremony held at the Brig O Doon House Hotel in Alloway.
The awards, featuring groups and individuals from across Ayrshire in nine categories, will be held on Thursday 6th October, an evening which will kick off with a champagne reception, followed by the ceremony and entertainment.
The Association has been nominated in the ‘Contribution to the Community’ category (sponsored by ASDA) by local people, with the nomination saying: “I wish to nominate John Nimmo (Chairman) and Bill Gibson (Secretary) of our Drongan Tenants’ and Residents Association because of the unstinting support they freely give to the people of our village.
“This is frequently overlooked and rarely thanked but they have worked so hard to make this village what it is today – and continue to work hard to make it better for the future.
“For the past five years they have fought a battle to get the burn which runs through the heart of our village upgraded and it is only in the past month and after countless double-turns and goalposts moving by the Council that we are finally seeing phase one up and running.
“They work for the community on every level to support individuals and get repairs and upgrades done and have secured troughs and hanging baskets to improve the area. They have also secured funding for Christmas lights and have erected them too, despite the fact that neither of them are in the first flush of youth!
“Many villagers think that John and Bill are on the Community Council as they get so much done but neither of these gentlemen has sought recognition for themselves and might be a little embarrassed to find themselves nominated! I am proud to sit on the DTARA committee with them and more than a little ashamed that I cannot do more to support them but I hope this will encourage them to continue with their sterling work.”
Good luck to the Drongan Association at the awards! Post your messages and comments here on s1drongan
